An update on the funds raised and distributed for the evacuated communities of Gush Katif/Northern Shomron

Last week when I was in Israel attending the Jewish Agency meetings I met with the key individuals who are overseeing the Committee on Behalf of the Gush Katif Evacuees: Mr. Rafi Seri, Director General of the Committee, and Rabbi Yigal Kaminetsky who was the Chief Rabbi of Gush Katif.

The Orthodox Union leadership determined after extensive research by Rabbi Hershel Billet, Rabbi of the Young Israel of Woodmere and a member of the OU Board of Directors, and OU Vice President Mr. Roy Spiewak, that this Vaad is the most effective and responsible organization to take the dollars that we have raised and use them in the most humanitarian non-political way possible.

Below you will find a link to an initial report outlining how the monies which we have already transferred to Israel were used for, as well as a list of concerns in which we, along with the Vaad, feel there is additional funding needed.

I strongly urge anyone who has not as yet contributed to seriously think about helping the innocent Israel citizens who unfortunately were the victims of the disengagement. For those of us who have contributed already please remember that Chanukah is around the corner and your additional contribution will help bring a modicum of light into the darkness that these families have persevered through. Please send your contributions to the Orthodox Union Gush Katif/Northern Shomron, Orthodox Union, 11 Broadway, New York, NY 10004.
