THIRD ANNUAL YACHAD BENEFIT EVENT IN TEANECK, FEBRUARY 24, AFFORDS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO HELP SEND YACHAD MEMBERS TO ISRAEL THIS SUMMER

Congregation Beth Sholom
354 Maitland Avenue in Teaneck

With “Comedy and Spirit,” the Teaneck Jewish Community will have an opportunity to help send Yachad members to Israel this summer by attending a special benefit Saturday, February 24, 8:30 p.m., at Congregation Beth Sholom, 354 Maitland Avenue. Yachad recently opened its New Jersey office in Teaneck.

“Comedy and Spirit,” as the event is called, will feature Modi, one of today’s top young comics, and the Guthrie Brothers, who will perform their Simon and Garfunkel act. Catering will be provided by Mr. Broadway and limited free baby-sitting will be available in the homes of the attendees.

“Yachad,” the flagship program of the Orthodox Union’s National Jewish Council for Disabilities (NJCD), provides unique social, educational and recreational programs for individuals with developmental, learning and physical disabilities. Trips to Israel are an important component of Yachad.

The third annual Teaneck event will be attended by people of all ages who are dedicated to supporting the future of Yachad and all of its programs, in this case the Israel trips, through an enjoyable evening of fun and activity. A committee of Teaneck residents has been established to serve as leaders for the program.

“I am extremely excited about the upcoming Teaneck Yachad event. This event provides an opportunity for all to engage in an enjoyable evening filled with laughter and entertainment while giving back to the Jewish community,” declared Atara Mauskopf, a dedicated lay leader who has been a driving force behind the benefit events.

“From experience, the organization not only assists the Yachad members — those with disabilities — but brings a sense of accomplishment with smiles to all volunteers who participate in monthly shabbatons, summer camps and other activities. I hope everyone can recognize the importance of this organization and are also aware that a greater purpose is being fulfilled by their attendance,” she said.

The attendees are sure to enjoy comedy acts by Modi, who has been voted one of the top 10 comedians in New York City by the Hollywood Reporter and BackStage. He has been cast in the new Ben Stiller/Christine Taylor sitcom on CBS, and appeared this summer on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and on HBO’s The Sopranos. Among his many other television credits, he has made numerous appearances on Comedy Central.

The Guthrie Brothers, Jeb and Jock, will share their passion for the great vocals of Simon and Garfunkel with the audience in Teaneck. An added benefit to Teaneck residents is limited free baby-sitting, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Raffle packages for summer scholarships are offered from $180 to $5,000 and include admission tickets for two. With registration in advance, admission is $75 per person including 1 raffle ticket, and $100 per person at the door. Discounts for young couples are also available.
