OU CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD STEPHEN J. SAVITSKY TO SERVE AS SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE AT YESHIVA COMMUNITY SHUL AT SHENK THIS SHABBAT, MAY 4

Orthodox Union Chairman of the Board Stephen J. Savitsky will be visiting the Yeshiva Community Shul at Shenk as Scholar-in-Residence for Shabbat Friday, May 4 (Parshat Behar-Bechukotai). The synagogue is located at 560 W. 185 Street in Washington Heights, between Audubon Avenue and St. Nicholas Avenue.

Mr. Savitsky, a Yeshiva University alumnus, will speak twice on Shabbat. After morning services, he will discuss “Seize the Moment, You Only Get One Chance.” During lunch, he will lead an open dialogue on “Major Issues in Orthodox Jewish Life.”

“Yeshiva University’s Shenk Shul is excited to host such an illustrious leader to our community of young adults,” said Rabbi Uri Orlian of Shenk. “He will hopefully show our mitpallelim how they, as businessmen, professionals, and laymen can dedicate their lives to Am Yisrael and Torat Yisrael with their own respective professions, skills and talents. Mr. Savitsky’s record of dedication to the Klal will certainly inspire this, younger, generation to realize that the fate of the future of Klal Yisrael can be impacted by the dedication and work of even a single individual, as Mr. Savitsky has.”

During his six-year OU presidency, New York-based Mr. Savitsky often visited Jewish communities large and small as part of a North American tour to bring the OU message far and wide, while at the same time receiving feedback from OU member congregations about their needs and how the OU could respond to them. He continues these visits as Chairman of the Board, his position since January 2011.
