OU’s Stephen J. Savitsky to Visit East Brunswick April 20-21

ORTHODOX UNION CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD STEPHEN J. SAVITSKY TO VISIT YOUNG ISRAEL OF EAST BRUNSWICK AS SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE, APRIL 20-21

Stephen J. Savitsky, Orthodox Union Chairman of the Board and Immediate Past President, will visit the Young Israel of East Brunswick as Scholar-in-Residence Friday, April 20-Saturday, April 21, Shabbat Parshat Shemini. The OU-member synagogue is located at 193 Dunhams Corner Road.

The visit is part of Community Weekend coordinated by the Karasik Department of Synagogue Services | Congregation Support Network of the Orthodox Union.

Mr. Savitsky will give the Shabbat morning drasha on “How Do We Restore Honesty and Integrity in the Orthodox Jewish World?” Shabbat afternoon, he will address “Top Challenges Facing the Orthodox World in 2012, With Solutions.” Mr. Savitsky will also speak during seudat shlishit at the synagogue, on “What Are the Steps Needed For Communities to Grow?”

Rabbi Jay Weinstein, Rabbi of the Young Israel of East Brunswick, said, “We are extremely excited to be hosting Mr. Savitsky in our shul. Our community benefits from many of the wonderful programs and services that the OU provides. We hope to utilize Mr. Savtisky’s expertise to help our community continue to grow and flourish. His visit will help strengthen the relationship between the Young Israel of East Brunswick and the Orthodox Union.”

During his six-year OU presidency, New York-based Mr. Savitsky often visited Jewish communities large and small as part of a North American tour to bring the OU message far and wide, while at the same time receiving feedback from OU member congregations about their needs and how the OU could respond to them. He continues these visits as Chairman of the Board, his position since January 2011.
