RABBI WEINREB TO SERVE AS SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE AT DR. GEORGE S. ROTTER MEMORIAL SHABBATON AT CONGREGATION SHAYA AHAVAT TORAH IN PARSIPPANY, OCTOBER 26-27
Rabbi Dr. Tzvi Hersh Weinreb, Orthodox Union Executive Vice President, Emeritus, will serve as Scholar-in-Residence in Parsippany Friday evening October 26 and Saturday October 27, Parshat Lech Lecha, when Congregation Shaya Ahavat Torah presents its “Fourth Annual Dr. George S. Rotter Memorial Shabbaton,” with the theme of “A Spiritual Response to a World in Crisis.” The congregation has been an Orthodox Union member since 1975.
Following Friday night services at 5:30 p.m., Rabbi Weinreb will speak on the Shabbaton’s theme at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program. At the next day’s Shabbat luncheon, Rabbi Weinreb will address, “Heroes to Inspire Us: A Personal List.”
“We are thrilled to have Rabbi Weinreb as our Scholar-in-Residence,” said congregation President Naomi Rotter, the widow of Dr. Rotter. “I have congregants who say, ‘I can’t believe we got Rabbi Weinreb.’”
Dr. Rotter, who died four years ago, earned a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from NYU and taught for many years at Montclair St. University. “He was very much interested in the future of the Jewish people,” Mrs. Rotter said. “The family thought that this Annual Shabbaton would be a perfect way to honor his memory. He was a visible person in the synagogue – he always went to shul.”
The congregation is located at 113 Hawkins Avenue, Parsippany. There will be a charge of $25 per person for dinner. Local hotel accommodations and Shabbat hospitality are available.
