OUR WAY PRESENTS OCTOBER 24 WORKSHOP ON RESOURCES AND GUIDANCE FOR AGING PARENTS

A new workshop on “Easing Your Parents Through Their Golden Years” will be presented by Our Way, the National Jewish Council for Disabilities (NJCD) program for the deaf and hard of hearing. The free event will take place from 7:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 24 at the Day Hab Building, 1306 Avenue H in Brooklyn. The entire workshop will be interpreted into American Sign Language. The event is open to all.

Declared Batya Jacob, Our Way National Program Director, “Whether you are deaf or hard of hearing or have parents who have hearing loss, it is important to address the relationships and responsibilities that come with age. We are extremely excited to offer this opportunity to address a growing need in our community in order to give them the best quality of life we can.”

The outstanding presenters will include:
• Tzvi Saperstein – Eldercare lawyer at Salem, Shor & Saperstein, LLP: to discuss laws concerning aging parents, health proxies and community Medicaid reimbursements;
• Fay Kahan – SSW, specializing in Geriatrics at Mt. Sinai Hospital: to discuss the various living options for aging parents;
• David Goldwasser – Financial planner at Metlife: to discuss future financial planning.

An up-to-date informational pamphlet on mental health professionals’ services for the deaf and hard of hearing, and lawyers in the New York/New Jersey area who sign and are familiar with the deaf community and their specific challenges and needs, will be distributed to all participants.
