OU JOB BOARD AND LEADING RABBIS DESIGNATE PARSHAT MISHPATIM, JANUARY 28-29, AS PARSHAT PARNASSAH:
UN/UNDEREMPLOYMENT AFFECTS EVERY COMMUNITY — GET INVOLVED!
The Orthodox Union Job Board|Employment and Resumé Opportunities and its partners have announced that Leading Rabbis have designated Parshat Mishpatim, January 28-29, as Parshat Parnassah, in which they urge congregations to think about those in their community who are going through unbelievable and all-too-often quiet hardship.
Get involved! is their message. Underemployment and unemployment affects every community, as one out of every ten people is underemployed or unemployed.
Declared Michael Rosner, International Director of the OU Job Board, “Parshat Mishpatim features a wide variety of mitzvot for communal life, emphasizing, ‘for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.’ In our shuls, people are not strangers – they are our neighbors. Parshat Mishpatim emphasizes that this is the time to become involved, to help our neighbors who are struggling in this economy.”
The OU Job Board and its partners suggest the following:
• Appoint a Gabbai Parnassah in shuls who will seek out other ba’alei batim who may have jobs available;
• Do you know of a job? Pass it along to the Gabbai Parnassah or send it to a Job Bank within your community or to the OU Job Board to post;
• Reach out to Human Resources at work and look into available employment openings;
• Give ma’aser by donating 10 percent of time to help people find jobs, write a resume, etc;
• Inform neighbors of existing community resources and services.
