ASK OU OUTREACH PROGRAM MAKES ITS FIRST APPEARANCE IN CANADA WITH HIGHLY PRAISED COMMUNITY KASHRUS EVENT IN TORONTO

OU Kosher’s popular ASK OU Outreach program recently made its first appearance in Canada with a Special Community Kashrus Event in Toronto co-sponsored by the COR Kashruth Council of Canada in Toronto.
Close to 250 men and women representing a cross section of Toronto’s diverse Jewish community were in attendance at Congregation Shomrai Shabbos-Chevra Mishnayos.
“The OU rabbis who participated in the program were amazed at the thirst for accurate kashrus knowledge exhibited by the audience,” said Rabbi Yosef Grossman, Toronto native and senior educational rabbinic coordinator and director of kosher education of OU Kosher, who coordinated the program. “Based on the feedback we received it appears that the entire Harry H. Beren ASK OU Outreach program co-sponsored by the COR was extremely well received by the Toronto community. We thank the COR, and particularly Rabbi Tsvi Heber, for their diligent efforts in promoting and publicizing the program. We are grateful to have them as a kashrus education partner.”
The program featured introductory remarks by Rabbi Heber, COR director of Community Kosher. In his passionate presentation, Rabbi Moshe Elefant, COO and executive rabbinic coordinator of OU Kosher, asked consumers to become partners with kashrus agencies in achieving the highest standards of kashrus. His plea was well received.
Rabbi Nachum Rabinowitz, senior OU rabbinic coordinator, gave a fascinating PowerPoint presentation on “The Production of Kosher Wine and Grape Juice,” a program he gave several times in different communities prior to Passover. Finally, the OU’s leading fish expert, the much-traveled Rabbinic Coordinator Rabbi Chaim Goldberg, spoke in an interesting and entertaining manner on “Current Kosher Fish Issues.”
An enthusiastic participant wrote to Rabbi Grossman, “I want to tell you that your seminar was the greatest inspiration and greatest chizuk for the community as a whole. I personally felt your styles were interesting , dynamic, exciting, informative and inspiring. I want to personally compliment Rabbi Goldberg and Rabbi Rabinowitz for the hands-on approach — it was truly incredible to watch — and Rabbi Elefant, your style of being emotional and telling stories was amazing.”
Another wrote, “The ASK OU Symposium was great. Interesting and informative information was given in a way that wasn’t lecturing but made you want to follow up. I really enjoyed it.”
