Dear Friend,
On the eve of Israel’s 58th year of Independence, I am happy to extend to you my heartfelt blessings and the hope for all of us that this year will stand as a marked time for deepening and expanding the friendship and partnership between us to achieve our collective goals for the Jewish people.
This week, when we celebrate Independence Day, we also commemorate Holocaust Martyrs and Heroes Remembrance Day as well as Israel’s Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day.
On these days we take the time to remember and sanctify the memory of those whose lives were extinguished in the days before the sovereign and independent State of Israel existed, as well as those who fell in the line of duty, fighting for and to protect our nation. We also commemorate those who tragically lost their lives as a result of terrorism and anti-Semitism, in Israel and throughout the world; individuals who paid such a heavy price simply because they were Jews.
We must remember that terrorism and anti-Semitism still plague the daily lives of Jews in communities in all four corners of the world. We are committed to standing at the frontline to protect and defend every Jew wherever this evil raises its head and to continue our struggle against anti-Semitism.
This is the hour to thank you, our friends and partners in the Jewish world, for your cooperation and unwavering support throughout the years in both the good and bad times. Your commitment, dedication and partnership have solidified the foundation of the State of Israel as well as made an impact on both the achievements and the face of Israeli society as a whole.
This is also the time to recognize the vast achievements of the State of Israel since its inception; accomplishments, that doubtfully would not have been attained without your support. The road ahead is still long and will certainly be filled with new challenges to be met. The Jewish Agency serves to connect the Jews in the Diaspora to the State of Israel and its government. I am positive that the partnership between us will continue to bring forth the realization of our goals of Aliyah by choice, the enrichment of Jewish identity and the commitment of the younger generation of Jews in the Diaspora to Israel and of course to shaping Israeli society by reducing the gaps in education among youth in the regions of national priority to Israel, namely the Negev and Galilee.
I wish you a Hag Sameach.
With Warm Regards,
Zeev Bielski
