Adas Torah Shul in LA Brings Purim to JSU Students

09 Mar 2009

When Adas Torah, an OU member synagogue in Pico-Robertson, Los Angeles, was casting around for an idea for its monthly women’s event, it decided to bring the joy of Purim to Jewish Student Union (JSU) teens by packaging and bringing them beautiful mishloach manot (traditional gifts of food and beverages distributed on the holiday of Purim). This particular chesed project was organized by Mrs. Sara Leah Goldberg, wife of Rabbi Effie Goldberg, West Coast Director of NCSY and JSU. The packages were assembled by women and girls in the Adas Torah congregation.

NCSY is the international youth organization of the Orthodox Union. It has allied itself with JSU, whose mission is to help Jewish teens in public schools continuously enhance their personal Jewish identity.

The students who received the mishloach manot attend Santa Monica High, where the JSU club is headed by JSU staff member Solly Hess.
