Pat Yisrael (also known as Pas Yisrael)

During the days known as Aseret Yemei Teshuva, from the start of Rosh Hashana until the conclusion of Yom Kippur (The Ten Days of Repentance) it is proper to observe certain stringencies that one does not observe the rest of the year, just as we ask of Hashem, blessed is His name, that He deal with us with exceptional kindness. One such stringency is Pat Yisrael.  Pat Yisrael is bread baked by a Jew.

Even if during the rest of the year one eats bread from a non-Jewish bakery, during these days one should try to eat only bread baked by a Jew.  Many individuals observe this stringency all year round.  This is certainly praiseworthy.

For more on the laws and traditions of this period,  please refer to the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch; Chapter 130.
