Jerusalem, Israel
I recently came to America for a short visit. Immediately after
I got off the plane I rushed to a local shul to catch a Shachris
minyan. Luckily I made it just in time for davening. As the
davening progressed I realized I was having a difficult time
keeping up with the speed of the davening (I read Hebrew very
well). Finally at the end of davening the chazzan read a kapit'l
of Tehillim pasuk-by-pasuk with the kahal. Realizing they were
saying Tehillim for the matzav in Eretz Yisroel, I began to
think, this minyan just sped through davening in under 30
minutes and then took time to say Tehillim for the matzav in
Eretz Yisroel.
How many times throughout our Tefiilah did the Anshei Knesses
Hagdolah discuss the redemption of Klal Yisroel from galus and
the subsequent entry into Eretz Yisroel. If we would spend just
a bit more time knowing what we were saying and REALLY davening,
we wouldn't need to be adding Shir Hamaalos after every Tefillah
(especially since after a while it too could become rote and
begin to lose its meaning).
Best wishes for your health and
safety in Eretz Israel. I do not feel safe here in America
at all. Why my fellow Americans are afraid to go to Israel is
beyond me. To have our words and prayers is not enough. Those
who can move to Israel should do so as soon as feasible.
It is not in my heart or interest to stand behind you. Those are
but words to me. My goal is to live among you come what may
after I complete my conversion this year. What a blessing that
will be.
Shalom,
-Patricia

My wife and I have just returned from a week's stay in Israel.
We went for a family wedding, but also spent a couple of very
enjoyable days in Jerusalem. The hotels and restaurants were
certainly not crowded, but they were far from empty as many
Israelis took some vacation days over Chanukah. There was also a
perceptible increase in the number of tourists, due to the chag.
Still, it is clear that
businesses that rely on tourism are hurting very much. Each and
every time we entered a store, we were thanked for having come
to spend time in Israel.
Driving around the country and
walking around Jerusalem, we were no more or less conscious of
the "matzav" than we are reading the newspapers and
listening to the news here in New Jersey. Jerusalem is calm and
serene; its people go about their daily lives in a very normal
fashion, just as people do the world over. Yes, you see
reminders of the terrible tragedies that have plagued us in the
past few months. Yes, there is a need to be vigilant. But that
is no different from life in New York City, or in many other
places around the world today. The point is that no one should
hesitate about going to Israel because he or she is scared.
Unfortunately, you need to be more scared of Israeli drivers
than of chancing to be in the line of fire of terrorists.
On the contrary, right now is the
time when we all need to make an extra effort to visit Israel.
Many families plan a vacation around this time of year,
particularly in the "yeshiva break" in the second half
of January. The OU--and several other organizations--are arranging
for "Solidarity" trips to Israel at that time. (For
details on the OU trip, visit www.ou.org/events/5762/solidarity02.htm
or email richard@ou.org.)
The reason those of you who are
in the Diaspora are reading these messages is because you care
about Israel. I urge you to demonstrate your concern by visiting
Israel now.

I would just like to tell you one thing. Thank you. Thank you
for living through a war for the past year and half, thank you
for keeping Israel for the Jewish people. Although it is unfair
that you live your life in fear everyday while go on about my
normal day I do care. I've sent letters to my government, I send
letters to my newspapers and news stations and me and some of my
friends have started a group to make others aware and concerned
with the situation going on In Israel.
Thank you for keeping our homeland, and soon B'ezrat Hashem
we'll all be living in Israel together.

Although the politics are important, and we must do our utmost
to persuade the nations of the world that the Land of Israel
belongs to us, let's not forget where the essentials lie-- Torah
and Mitzvos!

HAPPY HANUKKAH to all our brothers and sisters around the world
Jerusalem, Israel
From the eye of the Hurricane, the safest place on earth, I call
on all Jews outside of Israel to unite and come to the Holy Land
because only then will we see the miracles that await us. WE
NEED YOU.
I moved here from NY this past summer after turning down a
stockbrokerage job in the World Trade Center. My friends and
relatives thought I was crazy, just giving it all up and moving
into a "dangerous place". I said G-d is everywhere and
if he's trying to send us a message he can do it here in NY just
as well. I figured after Sept 11th people will get this message
more strongly. Unfortunately I was wrong because besides for the
few souls who got blown here from the sound of the Towers, YOU
are not here. I figured our "comfortable world" (the
excuse for many Jews staying in foreign countries) isn’t so
"comfortable" anymore.
We will only see true peace when we all unite with each other
with one love and one heart. That will automatically bring
destruction to our enemy's and peace onto the world. Then and
only then will we see G-d's goodness and that everything that
happened until now was just another piece of the puzzle that was
needed for completion.
SHALOM FROM JERUSALEM.
see you all soon! (don’t wait for the next hint)

I would like to learn of ways to donate money to Israeli causes.
It is very interesting that a simple search on Yahoo turns up
hundreds of ways to donate to Palestinians but the reveres is
very difficult. Please email me with suggestions or places to
look.

I want everyone who lives in Israel and reads this to know: We
are working here in the US to raise awareness of your pain, to
explain to the people the extent of your suffering...and the
hate instilled in your neighbors hearts against you. It is hard
for Americans to believe that in this day and age, there are
people who hate others, for being born different, or believing
in a different way of life. But they are starting to see and
understand that the Arab world hates Israel and they hate the
rest of the West as well. Slowly but surely, we will prevail.
I am a University Student who has an organization on campus
attempting to raise awareness of the Arabs ultimate cause; the
destruction of the state of Israel, the homeland of our
ancestors...
If anyone wants to get in touch with me and help us, we are
always looking for first hand experiences, or additional help or
advice.

We fully support the State of Israel, we are really concerned
about all this violence provoked by the Palestinians with
support of, seems like, all their leaders.
We understand that yes they are also humans, but no one in the
civilized world can resort to violence, especially the open
random killing of civilians no matter what the logic is.
We acknowledge that humans have been using war as weapons of
"negotiation" ever since we exist. However, we hope in
today's global village wars should be eliminated from the face
of the earth through knowledge, education, communication and
verbal, visual and written negotiation.

We in Puerto Rico are very sad about all the tragic situations
that are going on in Israel. We hope and pray that the blessings
of Hashem be with all our Jewish friends, may he protect all of
you and may we see the righteousness of Israel now and always.

We are evangelical Christians and we've just returned from 2 1/2
weeks in Israel. We went there just to show our support for
Eretz Yisrael and for the Jewish people. We were so sad at
seeing how few visitors there were, but we were so warmly
greeted wherever we went.

Support for my 'kin' in Israel. I regret that physically and
financially I am unable to travel there now. Visiting Israel was
the most spiritual experience of my life. Working for Israel was
the most gratifying thing I have done.
My best wishes for all of you in Eretz Yisrael.
I will return, G-d willing.

The attacks in Erets Yisrael do nothing to scare me away, in
fact, I will be making aliyah now -- even faster! We have
suffered enough through time, and we will NO LONGER stand for
the attempted destruction of our religion/people. Be strong
SHARON, be strong IDF, be strong to ALL JEWS across the world.
Remember, we might be different,
but it is persecution by the goyim which has divided us. To my
fellow Jews in America, go home! Go back to the Jewish homeland.
There is nothing for you in America. Complete the dream your
great-grandparents had--but could not do.

Today was one of the most horrible and frightening days I can
remember, perhaps worse than even the day the Palestinian
killers murdered twenty Israeli children at the Dolphinarium.
Apart from Tehillim, and prayers for the maimed, I am just left
with a sick and empty feeling in my stomach.

To quote a Native American...."A nation will not fall until
the hearts of it's women are on the ground." To all my
sisters in Israel, I pray BE STRONG! If the mother is the heart
of the home, we are also the heart of our country. Let us look
to our mothers throughout history and strive to be as brave as
they were. We will survive and make the world a better place!
