Adom.
The Conference of Presidents of Major
American Jewish Organizations, American Red Magen David for Israel (ARMDI)
and MDA Blood Services in Israel have launched the “Sharing for Life”
program to encourage Americans visiting Israel to donate blood to Magen
David Adom while in Israel. Magen David Adom is Israel’s equivalent of
the Red Cross. In addition to the vital need for blood for regular medical
services, there is additional demand for blood for victims of terror and
soldiers maintaining security on the front lines, as well as for added
supplies of blood components to produce antibodies for vaccines needed as
a precaution in the event of a biological terrorist attack.
This is a most meaningful expression of solidarity with the people of
Israel and has great practical as well as symbolic significance. There
is no more personal demonstration of commitment and concern than giving
blood. Special lapel pins identifying program participants will be
distributed to show our solidarity and unity with our brothers and sisters
in Israel and to encourage others back home to participate as well.
The MDA National Blood Center in Ramat Gan is available to accept blood
donors and provide special tours of the center, one of the most advanced
blood processing facilities in the world. ARMDI/MDA has also made
available 25 mobile units to meet groups at their hotels or other
convenient locations.
