With health care for all Americans being one of today’s most significant national issues, the Orthodox Union, in conjunction with the Young Israel of Woodmere and Lander College, will present the Jewish view in Universal Healthcare: What Does the Halacha Say in this Public Health Debate?, a presentation and analysis to be held Sunday, October 18, at 8 p.m. at the synagogue. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.

The Young Israel of Woodmere is located at 859 Peninsula Blvd.

The program will be led by Rabbi Aaron E. Glatt, MD, Assistant to the Rabbi at the Young Israel of Woodmere; President and CEO of New Island Hospital; and Professor of Clinical Medicine at New York Medical College.

“Health care is on everyone’s mind today in the United States, but what does Jewish law say on the matter?” declared Frank Buchweitz, OU National Director of Programs and Special Projects. “Rabbi Dr. Glatt will clarify this for us at the program. As both a rabbi and physician highly respected in both fields, he is uniquely qualified to shed light on what Jewish tradition tells us regarding what the United States government’s obligations are and what kind of legislation should be enacted.”
