On the first day of the month of Sivan, the Jews camped in the Sinai desert, opposite Mount Sinai. G-d told Moshe to give the following message to the people:
"You saw what I did in Egypt and how I took care of you. If you keep My covenant, you will be My special people. You will be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation."
