Rabbi Howard Zack

Rabbi Howard Zack was born and raised in Worcester, MA and spent his high school and NCSY years in Schenectady, NY.  Rabbi Zack was a chapter and regional NCSY president in Upstate New York and was named a regional and national NCSYer of the Year.  He also served as a National Convention Co-Chair.


Rabbi Howard Zack received his B.A.(YC), M.S. in Modern Jewish Philosophy(BRGS), and Rabbinic Ordination (RIETS)from Yeshiva University in New York City.  Following a post-rabbinic fellowship in Israel, Rabbi Zack became the rabbi of Beth Jacob Congregation of Oakland in 1985.  During his sixteen years of service to his congregation Rabbi Zack accomplished the following:

 


• Founded the Gan Mah Tov preschool in 1986.
• Founded Oakland Hebrew Day School in 1992.
• First rabbi to serve on the executive board of the Jewish     Federation of the Greater East Bay.
• Past president of the East Bay Council of Rabbis
• Member of the steering committee of the Jewish Federation’s     Commission on Jewish Continuity.

 


In September of 2001 Rabbi Howard Zack became the spiritual leader of
Congregation Torat Emet in Columbus, Ohio.

 


Rabbi Howard Zack is currently
• Past President of the Columbus Board of Rabbis.
• Past member of the selection committee for the Wexner Graduate Fellows Program.
• On the Committee for Social Justice of the Columbus Jewish Foundation.
• On the national executive board of the rabbinic cabinet of the UJC.
• On the Rabbinic Placement Committee of RIETS/YU
Classes and Lectures have included:
• Weekly Talmud and Bible studies.
• Jewish Medical Ethics at the University of California at Berkeley.
• Lectures on Judaism at Patten College and UC Berkeley Center for   Middle Eastern Studies.
• Lectures and classes at local and regional Jewish educational     conferences.
• A Keynote Address at the Orthodox Union’s National Biennial Convention.
• Presentations at the Orthodox Union’s National Leadership     Conferences of Synagogues of Smaller Jewish Communities.
Awards and honors received include:
• State of Israel Bonds - Rabbinic Leadership (1990).
• Jewish Family and Children’s Services - Rabbinic Leadership (1997)
• Oakland Hebrew Day School - Founders’ Award (1998).
