Homeland Security

Homeland security is a critical issue for the American Jewish Community. In our Post 9/11 environment all precautionary measures to protect Jewish institutions should be implemented. To that end the OU, along with other national Jewish organizations, have joined in close partnership to form the Secure Communities Network [SCN]. Through SCN, the organized Jewish community is coordinating and addressing critical safety and security needs in addition to establishing national standards for improving security at the local level. Additionally, we urge local synagogues and day schools to work closely with law enforcement officials to ensure that their particular security needs are being met.

The OU/IPA promotes our community's security in other ways as well. We work side by side with members of Congress to obtain crucial resources to help the Jewish community adapt to the current security challenges confronting our institutions, including synagogues and schools alongside other non-profits. Most recently, our work has culminated in the release of $25 million in homeland security funds by Congress to protect at-risk nonprofits across America. Please explore the links below to learn more about this critical issue and how your shul or school can benefit.
