Position Summary:
This System Engineer position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the messaging infrastructure. This includes the establishment of best practices and procedures to ensure the optimal level of performance, availability and recoverability of all facets of the corporation’s Microsoft Exchange based messaging environment. This position requires the ability to work independently in a challenging, team-based environment to achieve prescribed goals and objectives.
Reports to Server Group Manager
Position Responsibilities – Detailed:
· Management and optimization of the entire messaging environment including e-mail archiving, database maintenance, mailbox management, virus / spam filtering, instant messaging, Blackberry, secure message delivery, high availability and disaster recovery related responsibilities
· Architect and complete the migration to Exchange 2007 from the existing Exchange 2003 server environment
· Recommend and assist in the deployment of the optimal unified communications environment for the corporation
· Maintenance, administration and monitoring of the current Microsoft Windows / HP Proliant server environment
· Implement and maintain the optimal data replication and server recovery solutions to attain the high availability and disaster recovery goals of the corporation
· Assume secondary support responsibilities for data backup, infrastructure monitoring, IIS, SQL Server, VMware and / or Active Directory related issues and projects
· Collaborate with the Infrastructure team in the troubleshooting and resolution of escalated server, messaging and application related issues
· Communicate clearly and effectively with the business units while identifying technology needs and recommending solutions
Required Skills and Competencies:
· Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
· 5 years of experience in a Microsoft Windows based server environment, preferably in a mid to enterprise sized financial services organization
· 3 years of experience with Microsoft Exchange 2003
· Experience with the implementation and maintenance of unified communications (Cisco, Microsoft) and e-mail archiving solutions preferred
· Server infrastructure performance and system health monitoring experience preferred
· HP Proliant Servers (DL and BL series), HP Systems Insight Manager, EMC Centera, Symantec Enterprise Vault, Symantec / Veritas NetBackup and Windows clustering experience preferred
· Working knowledge of data replication technologies (EMC Replication Manager, MirrorView, SANCopy, SnapView, Replistor, DoubleTake software) and disaster recovery solutions preferred
· Demonstrated project management skills and ability to work within predefined guidelines as they relate to change control procedures and compliance regulations
· Understanding of ITIL framework
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
