Position Responsibilities - Summary
Using discretion and judgment, this position directs the strategy, business and technical analysis, resource allocation and project management for the Oracle database administration group under direct management. Directs the design, testing, and implementation of all database technologies and products. Works closely with the Vice President of Database Services Center to develop products, services, efficiencies that are consistent with the vision and strategy of company. Position mitigates risk, and is focused on internal controls. Manages and trains assigned staff.
Position Responsibilities – Detailed
· Manages assigned staff; makes recommendations regarding employment and decisions regarding training and development, and performance management.
· Provides project management, prioritization, direction, and leadership to staff in order to accomplish defined projects.
· Identifies areas where new technologies can be leveraged to create enhanced customer service or improved operational efficiencies. Initiates steps to improve deficient area.
· Proactively develops and maintains strong knowledge of information systems and their related components, and makes recommendations to improve the reliability, scalability, performance, or security of these systems as appropriate. This includes proactive performance tuning and capacity analysis to ensure company is maximizing its technology investment.
· Generates long-range strategic plans and migration strategies for Oracle database systems.
· Focuses on creating and maintaining a strong control environment to meet various regulatory and audit requirements and to be in compliance with corporate policies.
· Works with the assigned DBA staff to implement strong security and audit technologies and policies.
Required Skills and Competencies:
· Bachelor's degree preferred with a required minimum of 8 years' prior related experience in Oracle Database Technology, preferably with 5 years in Financial Services.
· At least 2 years of managing a database technology group and 3 years of database project management.
· Must have the current technical knowledge and hand on experience to contribute in a technical capacity.
· Must have worked on evaluating, designing and implementing Database Administration, Performance Tuning, High Availability, Disaster Recovery and Database Security technologies.
· Extensive experience with Oracle database technologies including installation, administration, backup/recovery, server and query performance tuning, SQL, memory management etc. Exposure to storage technology, backups and application support. Strong knowledge of High Availability within the database environment also required.
· Familiarity with Veritas product set including Volume Manager, Net Back up and Volume Replicator is desired but is not required.
· Strong hands on experience in supporting Oracle database technologies.
· Understanding of performance analysis process and experience in architecting and implementing solutions to support high volume database applications.
· Ability to garner and maintain relationships with the vendors for the Oracle database systems group under management.
· Sybase or SQL Server experience a plus but not a requirement.
