Company Information:

Candidates selected will be designated as English Skill Evaluators. Their job will consist in listening to short speeches (of five minute duration) and asking four or five simple questions and recording their answers. By using a voice logger they will be able to conduct tests on a national basis, although they may be stationed in Bangalore or Coimbatore. They evaluate the speech in terms of its intelligibility to native speech on a scale of one to hundred. Techniques and parameters of evaluation have been developed by our institute and candidates will be given a fortnight's training in how to go about their job. Our clients are multinational companies which recruit large numbers of engineers, software professionals, call centre agents whose English proficiency is crucial to their competence. And these clients of ours outsource the job of skill assessment to us because they lack the expertise and want to save on both time and money.

Besides skill assessment, there will be opportunities for training professionals in spoken English and also preparing training modules. We have both Indian and British experts who currently supervise these jobs.

Ours is not a large company now but we are rapidly expanding our work force.

We pay 6 to 8 thousand Indian rupees a week plus free lodging in a flat on twin sharing basis.
Transportation within the city and lunch at the work place are other perks.

We work five days a week. Most of our evaluators are young women in the age group 20 to 25. We provide a professional and English speaking ambience.

We are looking at candidates who are graduates, free from the naivete that goes with mono-lingual or mono-cultural upbringing, able to quickly put the initial cultural shocks behind them and ready to get on with their assigned functions.

My wife, my children and I have had the most extra-ordinarily positive inter-actions with Jews, both diaspora and Israeli, and we have always wanted to give them the first refusal on job opportunities created by us. We also believe, although we could be biased here, that Jews display greater readiness to accept foreign cultures than others. Having said that, we are also open to non-Jews applying for these jobs. We have four to six vacancies now but their number could go up.

There is one other thing: we are very negative on substance abuse and drinking and smoking, if indulged in, should be done very discreetly and among friends and known people. A British or an American accent is not mandatory but their English should be clear and intelligible in a global context.

I run a research and training institute called English Language Acquisition Centre and am consultant to two large IT-based companies on training-related matters. My institute and the companies I work for are looking for English-speaking Israelis who can earn good money as English skill evaluators. Do you think you can help? It is a short time assignment lasting six months or so. . I shall give more details on what we do, what kind of people we are looking for and also why we would like Israelis or Jews, on hearing from you. We have about four vacancies now and the job pays fairly well. The jobs will be located either in Bangalore or Coimbatore.
