If the OU wants to solicit ads from authors and call them articles, fine, but this isn’t a very good ad. It just describes the problem. Where’s the “how” promised in the title? This says that financial planning is necessary, chutz la’aretz financial planning won’t work because Israel is different, and the author wrote a book. Is the book any good? Is there actionable information in the book? Even if you’re writing your own ad and calling it an article, don’t you think you might want to provide an example or two from the book?

Thanks for your comment on my recent article for the OU. I’m sorry that you felt it wasn’t practical enough, however, it was specifically intended as an introductory
article to highlight the importance of a financial plan for Aliyah- rather than coming ‘on a wing and a prayer’. Realization of the financial realities of Aliyah is the first step towards a successful new life in Israel. My book, A Financial Guide to Aliyah and Life in Israel, is a practical, hands-on guide to the many potentially problematic areas that olim and expatriates encounter when moving to and living in Israel. It has received many positive reviews that you can find online that quote specific examples. I wanted this first article to make people aware of how critical it is to put together a plan and educate themselves about the financial impact of their Aliyah in both the short and long term. I hope that I achieved that aim.
