This past summer, Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun ("KJ") suffered a tragic fire in which the synagogue was destroyed. Luckily, KJ was well protected by a very effective insurance program which will help it rebuild. The April 2012 OU-sponsored meeting for School and Synagogue Executive Directors and Presidents was hosted by CKJ Executive Director, Lenny Silverman.
The presentation was made by Michael Brooks of Austin & Co (the insurance firm that advised KJ in arranging their coverage). Mr. Brooks briefed the participants on selecting the correct coverages, and specific exposures unique to synagogues and schools. He also discussed disaster planning and response strategies.

Every year millions of people come to see Michelangelo's Sistine ceiling, which is the largest fresco painting on earth in the holiest of Christianity's chapels; yet there is not one single Christian image in this vast, magnificent artwork. Rabbi Blech tells the fascinating story of how Michelangelo embedded messages of Judaism in his painting to encourage "fellow travelers" to challenge the repressive Roman Catholic Church of his time.
