While the whole of the Jewish people mourn the deaths, it is the
close family and friends who feel the most pain and sorrow. I hope you find the strength
to mourn and move on and to experience only happy events in the future.

In 1992, a very close friend of mine, Rabbi Michael J. Harel, was
tragically killed in an automobile accident. It took me and those close to Michael many
months to overcome the sadness which accompanied his death. At age 37, he had so many more
years to live and could have accomplished so much. Thus, I understand the types of
feelings that those close to the soldiers who died must be feeling. These young men had so
many more years of healthy productive life ahead, and their deaths at an early age can
only make those who loved them sad forever and always wondering what they would have been
like in ten years, twenty years, or forty years. I offer my consolences to the families
and friends of those who died. I also wish a happy Passover to those in Israel and
elsewhere. Shalom.

In Loving Memory To Those Who Gave In Death Their Part In The
Rebuilding Of The Land Of Israel. Amos 9:11,14-15 In that day will I raise up the
tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up
his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old. 14 And I will bring again the
captivity of my people Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, adn inhabit them;
and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens,

Every loss of life is horrible. Awful when parents say Kaddish on
their sons, The numbers are too much to understand. Jewish numbers as 6,000,000, as 73, as
my own father - is too much. The pain is too big. God bless their young souls, may their
families will know no more pain and sorrow. There is one way you can save life, become a
Volunteer Bone Marrow Donor. It is ONLY YOU - that can give a second life chance to a
Cancer patient, who needs Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) - Become a BMD - Bone Marrow Donor.

This is a tragic event not only for the families of those who died,
but to all the Jews and Israelis in the world. Because all Jews, and all Israelis share a
bond that other religions and other countries. For example, here in Canada, something
tragic h appens in Vancouver, it's possible that Toronto won't even hear about it. It
could be because Canada is such a big country and Israel is small, but I think it's
because Israelis are more united spiritually and physically. As an Israeli living in
Canada, m y heart goes out to all those families that lost a son, a husband, a brother, a
grandfather.

that their son had not died in vain - after all, they told us, look at the love and unity
that came from all over Israel and all over the world. From their terrible tragedy came
unity and 50,000 people praying together. It wasn't in vain. It is the same with these
brave boys - 73 precious souls that did not die in vain - because look at all the love

On the occasion of the tragic and untimely passing of the 73 brave
Sons of Israel, I think it best that we should not mourn their deaths but rather we should
celebrate their lives as we give thanks to Almighty God that he has seen fit to give us
patriots of such high character who lay down their lives not only for those of us who live
in the present but for those generations yet unborn. Let us bless their memories and honor
their families for the unselfish sacrifice that they have made for us all.

My friends and I were very upset at the deaths of the israeli
soldiers. At school we had an assembly to comemerate all the soldiers that died. Our
principal, Being from Israel was overcome with grief and was on the verge of tears. I
would like to exten d condolences to the famillies of those who died while in the line of
duty. Hashem never does anything without a reasonand I'm sure there was a reason for this
terrible tradgedy. B'ezrat Hashem they will be well taken care of in shamayim.

February 5, 1996 -- I just got back from the funeral. It was really
sad. How do you describe it???? how can I tell you so fleetingly of what I saw , heard,
experienced? It was so......I dont know. Unbelievable. People were wailing the whole time.
I watched them carry the aron wrapped in the flag, and watched them place the body into
the kever. It was in many white bags. How scary. I was really affected by the whole thing.
It is so hard to fathom- his parents, sisters, brothers, they were just going about their
lives, when suddenly-their lives are disrupted-and changed forever. The chayal's father
spoke. He spoke a little abt his son, Alon____ Chay ben Reuven v'Chaya, Z"L, and also
said that the family will pick up their shattered lives and move on. It was so sad.
Several Rebbeim spoke, about how all of Klal Yisrael feels their pain, shares the pain.
The chayal's father also sent nechama to the other bereived families. This experience
definitely impacted on me,and on my year here. On the way to Har Herzl, my madricha spoke
about how we are _living_ here for a year, we are not just tourists. We are mourning with
BN"Y, we are a part of this nation-we arent on the outside looking in. It is so
different living in America. We sit there and hear what happens in Israel-and then we sigh
and move on. How often do we think about the day to day lives these people here live? This
is a part of the life here-and every single mother, father, pales when they hear of
another occurance. Last year there was rampant peguim on busses-do u remember when???
Adar. Tali, remember the Gulf War? It ended, I think, in adar. think back to the many sad
occurances among our nation over the past few years-Adar. What is the essence of
Adar/Purim? Hester Panim. HaShem doesnt reveal himself so obviously to us now, He is
hidden behind "nature", behind "happenstance", behind
"coincidence". Do we view this as another sad occurance, but "military
accidents are a part of life in the army", or do we say-stop. 73 of our top TOP
soldiers were killed. What does this tell Am Yisrael? What is HaShem telling us? May Klal
Yisrael be zocheh to hear only Besurot Tovot-Amen. All My love, Atara Rachell

ISRAEL FEB. 5 1997 28 SHVAT 5757 As the bodies are now being flown
out of the crash site, some as torsos, some as legs and arms, some without faces, the
rabbanut, chevra kadisha, and the IDF division of recognition experts for identification
whom we had seen so often last year at bus exp losions are working around the clock at
Ohel Yakov morgue in Tel Aviv. The rain has stopped, the snow has ceased to fall, and the
winds have died down throughout Israel. The streets of Jerusalem and downtown Tel Aviv
look like the hours before Yom Kippur. The feeling is that of despair and why for Am
Yisroel. Today, 73 families throughout this land have to prepare for kriya, kaddish, and
avelut. The dead soldiers represented a cross section of the population from kibbutznik to
hesdernik. Although only several names are being released on the radio each hour, the
Knesset members have been instructed to spread their 120 membership to 73 funerals
throughout the land. The country is once again unified, there is no talk about 'peace,'
Hebron, Jerusalem, or the Golan. The only questions as candles are being lit in all
schools from Meah Shearim to Hashomer Hatzair kibbutz schools, is which funeral you are
going to attend and did you know Yossi, Shlomo, or David? Yes, my friends, once again the
Almighty has said something to all of us. We ask, we question, we share our disbeliefs,
and beliefs with our children in this land now soaked with more blood and the tears of
rainfall from shamayim, must look and search for answers. It is cold outside, bitter cold
in Jerusalem as the frost of death cannot warm us the yidden. The Kotel was its usual
photo oportunity this morning. At the wall were paratroopers crying, chassidim and
yeshivash bachurim crying and swaying in tehillim, and the Kotel was unusually full for a
Wednesday. The bus driver from the number 1 bus from the K otel, the cab driver form Tel
Aviv with tourists, the policewoman, the secular Israeli clutching onto his contemporary
kippa in the blowing wind were all attatched and clinging to the Wall. There was no left,
right, secular, religious, chassidic, or other schism this morning. The Western Wall began
to wai, even at 7AM. The government has ordered all cinemas, clubs, and restaurants closed
tonight for a day evilsic? The people are wandering and wondering around and aloud
everywhere I go. There is no honking, no screaming at each other, no cutting through lines
or pushing in public places. Unity over death... A time for tikkun nefesh again as is
required on all the passports of we, the olim, we the tourists, and the vatikim. Hashem
