Haiti Earthquake Disaster Fund
Jews are described by the Talmud as "rachmanim b'nei rachmanim,” a particularly compassionate people who are sensitive to the suffering of all, and we cannot sit by and ignore this terrible drama of human suffering and misery.
Contributions made online and by mail to the Orthodox Union's Haiti Earthquake Disaster Fund are already making a world of difference.
Attached below are links to videos that have appeared on CNN and YouTube that demonstrate the tremendous Kiddush HaShem being made by the Israeli people and the global Jewish community as participants in the massive relief effort taking place in Haiti.
Two jumbo jets carrying more than 220 doctors, nurses, civil engineers, and other Israeli army personnel, including a rescue team and field hospital, were among the first rescue teams to arrive in Haiti. In fact, they were the first foreign backup team to set up a medical treatment facility in earthquake ravaged Port-au-Prince.
Counted among those who are especially grateful is proud mother, Gubilande Jean Michel, whose baby boy was born in the Israeli field hospital. As an expression of her gratitude she named her son Israel. Little Israel is one of the hundreds who have been saved by Israeli doctors or rescue teams
Those who have made contributions through the Orthodox Union's fund will be proud to learn that the support forwarded by the OU to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) was used to provide special equipment (including incubators for newborns) in the field hospital and orthopedic equipment used for crush victims.
Together, we're making a difference.
