West Coast NCSY Expands Focus From Teens to All Childhood with Parenting Shabbaton 8/31 to 9/2
NCSY is the youth movement of the Orthodox Union.
According to Rabbi Effie Goldberg, West Coast NCSY Regional Director, “The weekend is geared to Jewish families who are interested in acquiring a stronger spiritual and practical approach to parenting.” Some of the topics to be included are:
• Helping your child relate to God;
• Raising a positive child in a negative world (inside and outside the home);
• Practical advice on keeping the communication lines open and setting limits;
• Parenting children in their primary years – first to eighth grade.
Featured speakers will be Rabbi Noach Orlowek, Mashgiach at Yeshivas Torah Ohr in Jeurusalem, and author of “Raising Roses among the Thorns”; and Rabbi Lawrence Keleman, Professor at Neve Yeurushalayim in Jerusalem and author of “To Kindle a Soul.”
Rabbi Goldberg and Assistant NCSY Regional Director, Dr. Eliezer Jones, a professional psychologist, will also make presentations.
Why, with this program, is NCSY expanding from teens to the whole gamut of youth?
Rabbi Goldberg explained, “Our role in NCSY is to inspire the Jewish future. Another way for us to do this is by enabling parents to create a healthy environment. We want to assist parents in having stronger, more stable relationships with their children. This Parenting Shabbaton is the perfect opportunity for NCSY to assist in building a family foundation.”
