OU’s Rabbi Burg to Speak at Rutgers New Brunswick, 4/22
Rabbi Steven Burg, Managing Director of the Orthodox Union and International Director of its youth movement, NCSY | Jewish Youth Leadership, will visit the Jewish community at Rutgers University in New Brunswick as part of the OU’s Seif Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus (JLIC) program on Thursday, April 19 -- Holocaust Commemoration Day. Beginning at 8:00 p.m., Rabbi Burg will discuss the next generation and the future of Orthodox Jewish leadership and where he sees the next generation playing a role in that future.
The presentation will be held at the Rutgers Hillel, 93 College Avenue. JLIC is found on 15 major campuses in the United States and Canada, in which a young rabbi and his wife, known as Torah Educators, provide the learning and social atmosphere of the yeshiva to Orthodox students who have chosen to attend secular campuses.
Rabbi Akiva and Nataly Weiss, the JLIC Torah Educators at Rutgers, will be the program’s hosts.
They emphasized, “Rabbi Steven Burg is without a doubt the rabbi with his fingers on the pulse of the Orthodox Jewish youth of this nation and beyond. As International Director for NCSY, his insights and perspectives into the direction and status of the Orthodox world are paramount. This Yom Hashoah, as we commemorate the destruction of European Jewry, the Orthodox community at Rutgers University will be hearing from Rabbi Burg as he speaks about the next generation and the future of Orthodox Jewish leadership and where he sees our next generation playing a role in that future.”
They also noted, “The OU-JLIC program is one of the foremost resources and components for Orthodox students on secular college campuses across the country to help them maintain and lead a meaningful religiously observant lifestyle on campus. Having Rabbi Burg come to our campus and speak to our students not only reinforces the indelible connection the OU plays in college students’ lives throughout the country (and particularly here at Rutgers), but also gives our students the opportunity to hear from one of the leaders of the organization which provides worldwide leadership for the Orthodox community.”
