OU President to Visit Mount Kisco Hewbrew Congregation, Shabbat Weekend, December 5-6
Mr. Savitsky will meet with the community and deliver a series of talks throughout Shabbat. Joining him will be NCSY Upstate New York Regional Director Shalom Schlagman.
Mount Kisco Hebrew Congregation was one of the three New York area synagogues chosen as participants for a pilot outreach program of the OU geared to Jewish men and women seeking to explore their Jewish identity and heritage, thus connecting with their Jewish roots. The program, “Reaching Out…Changing Lives,” is being offered through a grant funded by UJA-Federation of New York.
Rabbi Goldscheider declared, “It is a great honor for our historic congregation to host President Stephen Savitsky for Shabbat and to be formally welcomed to the Orthodox Union as a member synagogue. Our synagogue has been a home for traditional Orthodox Judaism for over 100 years here in Northern Westchester. We remain the only Orthodox congregation in the entire region. In recent years, we experienced significant growth and have become even more vibrant with the surge of the Jewish population in the area. With our new partnership and support of the OU, we know that we will have an even greater ability to provide for our congregants and bring the wisdom and joy of Judaism to the larger community.
“We already feel indebted to the OU in helping us procure a significant outreach grant that will allow us to expand our efforts in that direction. We hope to reach an ever-growing population of Jews in our area who are searching for a Judaism filled with spirituality and depth.”
