It is the most awe-inspiring davening in the Jewish calendar all year, and now, the Orthodox Union and the Belz School of Jewish Music of Yeshiva University will hold a free community presentation that will explore the spirituality and powerful meaning behind it. “The Music and Tefillot of the Yamim Noraim (High Holy Days): Understanding the Spiritual Dimensions,” will take place on Tuesday, September 8, 8:00 p.m., at Congregation Beth Aaron, 950 Queen Anne Road, Teaneck.

OU President Stephen J. Savitsky declared, “We are proud to help promote a higher level of spirituality and understanding of the musical element of our prayers which is such a vital part of the davening at all Orthodox Union member synagogues.”

Rosh Hashana will take place on Shabbat and Sunday, September 19-20 this year; Yom Kippur falls on Sunday night, September 27, and Monday, September 28.

Program participants include Rabbi Larry Rothwachs, spiritual leader of Congregation Beth Aaron; Rabbi Jeremy Wieder, Joseph and Gwendolyn Straus Professor of Talmud at RIETS, and Instructor of Bible at Yeshiva College; Cantor Bernard Beer, Director, Belz School of Jewish Music; and Cantor Sherwood Goffin, Instructor, Belz School of Jewish Music, and Cantor, Lincoln Square Synagogue.
