OU Convention And Touro College Partner For Parents of Students Going to Israel
The program, offered at no charge in conjunction with two divisions of Touro College – Lander College for Men (Beis Medrash L’Talmud) and Lander College for Women (The Anna Ruth and Mark Hasten School) – will provide tours of schools that are under consideration and arrange meetings with key adminstrators and rabbanim. The staff of the Lander Colleges will provide this assistance to the parents.
A similar program in cooperation with Touro College was held in conjunction with an OU mission to Israel in January, in which parents on the trip availed themselves of the opportunity to visit the yeshivot and seminaries.
“In addition to all the other activities at the Convention, including making known our insistence that Jerusalem must not be divided in any peace negotiations with the Palestinians, and in addition to all the opportunities for touring and study that the Convention will provide, parents of advanced high school students will have the added bonus of being able to plan for the future with their school visits,” declared OU President Stephen J. Savitsky. “Of course, if parents want to bring their teens along with them to the Convention to visit the schools as well, that would be even better.”
According to Dr. Moshe Sokol, Dean and Professor at the Lander College for Men, “Meeting key yeshiva personnel and getting a first–hand view of the students and facilities, provide the kind of insight crucial to making the right choice for that all-important year in Israel.”
Dr. Marian Stoltz-Loike, Dean of the Lander College for Women, declared, "The Orthodox Union and Touro College have enjoyed close and ongoing relationships in the areas of higher Jewish education and religious programming. The Lander College for Women/the Anna Ruth and Mark Hasten School is delighted to, once again, be working with the Orthodox Union as it will better enable students to pursue their academic, professional, and personal goals with a solid foundation in Torah. "
School visiting days will be Monday November 24 through Thursday, November 27, and the Convention’s closing day, Sunday November 30.
