OU and Eliezer Project to Offer Workshop on Economic Crisis in Lawrence, May 18
As part of its response to the economic crisis, the Orthodox Union will present a workshop in Lawrence, “Addressing Uncertain Times as a Community,” in conjunction with the Eliezer Project. Admission is free to the workshop, which will take place on Monday, May 18, at 8:30pm at Congregation Beth Sholom, 390 Broadway.
The Eliezer Project is a local organization dedicated to assisting families in the Five Towns, Far Rockaway and adjacent communities experiencing economic hardship, by helping them restore the financial stability of their households.
The seminar will feature two programs. The first session, How to Do More with Less: Redefining Family Financial Priorities, will be presented by David Siegel, J.D., a specialist in Bankruptcy and Debt Settlement Issues. Dodi Lamm, Licensed Social Worker, will present the second session, The Impact of the Economic Crisis on the Family: Coping, Discussion and Management Strategies. A question and answer session will follow the presentations.
According to Frank Buchweitz, OU National Director of Community Services and Special Projects, "There isn’t a community immune to the upheavals caused by the economic crisis. In addition to our vast array of programs, the OU is working with communities to assist individuals and families who have been affected. We are very happy to be partnering with the Eliezer Project, with its roots in the Five Towns, on communal programs. The two sessions in Lawrence will present basic strategies for dealing with these very difficult times and in taking the necessary steps for people to restore financial stability to their homes and families.”
The seminar is only one aspect of the Orthodox Union’s response to the economic meltdown. The OU Job Board, for example, lists thousands of available positions nationwide; posts hundreds of resumes; and offers seminars, workshops and lots more help, all free, at www.ou.org/jobs.
