Navigating the Online Dating World
“The program was very successful,” said Michael Feldstein, who worked with the Orthodox Union and several individuals at SawYouAtSinai, a personalized online dating and matchmaking service for Jewish singles, to plan the program. “The small groups provided for healthy interaction between singles, and many good tips on online dating strategies were shared between singles.”
Some of the topics that were discussed were the pros and cons of including a photo and how it can help size up a potential match, using Facebook and Google to screen dates suggested to you, the ethics relating to lying about your age, privacy issues, and several other online dating issues.
The moderators included Marc Goldmann, founder of SawYouAtSinai; Helen Greenfield, a SawYouAtSinai matchmaker; Baila Sebrow, an independent matchmaker; and Sandy Weiner, a dating coach and the founder of Last First Date.
“Many singles are confused and threatened by the online technology,” said Feldstein. “They know they want to use the online medium to help them find a match, but don’t always possess the necessary tools to maximize their experience. I think this program assisted those singles who attended.”
The Orthodox Union Singles Division is part of the Synagogue and Community Services group, which is headed by Frank Buchweitz.
