OU Presents Queens-LI Rebbetzins Conference on OCD in the Jewish Community, May 3 in Kew Gardens Hills

23 Apr 2015

The Orthodox Union Department of Synagogue and Community Services will present a program for Queens and Long Island rebbetzins, “Acknowledging OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder): Religious Responsibility or Dysfunctional Disability,” at Congregation Nachlas Yitzchok (Rabbi Oelbaum’s Shul), 141-43 73rd Avenue in Kew Gardens Hills on Sunday, May 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The presenter will be Deborah Marchuck, LMSW, who practices as a psychotherapist at Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services and Chai Lifeline, and is also an associate at Long Island Counseling and Anxiety Center in Cedarhurst. The program is complimentary and includes a light breakfast.

Rebbetzin Judi Steinig, associate director of Community Services at the Orthodox Union, explained, “OCD in the Orthodox community can often be masked as a zealous way of religious observance. It is important to understand the distinction and for rebbetzins to learn how to assist individuals and families dealing with challenges from this disorder.”
