The bank of Israel was founded on August 24, 1954 when the function of running the bank was transferred from the Ministry of Finances to the exclusive authority of the bank. The bank was made completely independent in 1985. In 2010 the Bank of Israel was ranked first among central banks for efficient functioning as per the World Competitiveness Yearbook. The building is in the shape of a ship and is located near the Kiriya, where the major government ministries are found.
