Biographical Sketches of Presenters


Aviva Biberfeld, Ph.D.
Dr. Aviva Biberfeld received a doctorate in clinical psychology from Yeshiva University, Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology. She was a senior staff member at Maimonides Development Center and currently maintains a full-time private practice in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Biberfeld treats children, adolescents, and adults, with a sub-specialty in parental counseling.


Norman Blumenthal, Ph.D.

Dr. Norman Blumenthal is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Hewlett, NY, specializing in adolescent and group therapy. Dr. Blumenthal is the coordinator of group psychotherapy training for psychiatric residents and psychology interns at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He received his MA and Ph.D. from Adelphi University.

Rona Novick, Ph.D.
Dr. Rona Novick is  Senior Psychologist in the division of Adolescent Psychiatry at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, and is a member of the faculty of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She is also in private practice on Long Island.

David Pelcovitz, Ph.D.

Dr. David Pelcovitz is Professor of Education and Psychology at Yeshiva University’s Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and also teaches courses in Pastoral Psychology in the Bella and Harry Wexner Kollel Elyon and Semicha Honors Program at the University’s affiliated Rabbi Isaac Elchonon Theological Seminary. (RIETS). Dr. Pelcovitz has published and lectured extensively on a variety of topics related to child mental health, including: post-traumatic stress disorder, parenting, child, and adolescent behavior problems, child abuse, and the impact of divorce and stress on children.


Nosson Westreich, MD

Dr. Nosson Westreich, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto Medical School. He is on staff at Sunnybrook & Women's Health Science Centre where he directs the regional in-patient adolescent unit and teaches both medical students and supervises residents. He has authored numerous professional articles, and is a noted speaker for medical, civic, and Jewish organizations both nationally and internationally. Dr. Westreich served as Regional Director of NCSY for ten years prior to embarking on his medical career, including the Orthodox Union's camp in Kharkov, Ukraine.
