ISRAEL SOLIDARITY RALLY

There is an extremely positive response to the
April 15 rally. A number of organizations have already indicated
that they will close their offices and urge staff members to attend.
We hope all agencies to follow suit.
Venue
The rally will be held on the west front of the US Capitol, First
St. between Constitution and Independence Avenues.
Transportation
Buses
There will be a $20 per bus parking charge, payable in cash upon entry to RFK stadium.
BUSES SHOULD PLAN TO ARRIVE AT RFK STADIUM EARLIER, BEGINNING AT 11:00 AM. There will not be access to the rally site until 12:00 noon.
BUSES FROM NEW YORK: Buses from the greater New York area should be registered with the JCRC of New York, which is coordinating the New York mobilization. Please let the JCRC know if space is available on your buses, so they can refer individuals who want to join. The New York JCRC will register all buses from the greater New York area with the UJC Washington Action office.
All buses must be registered before the rally with the UJC Washington Action Office.

Participants from the greater Washington area should travel to the site via metro. There will be no bus service within 20 blocks of the rally site
Buses must enter RFK Stadium at Lot 3, East
Capitol Street and 19th Street.
Buses should avoid: the Baltimore Harbor
Tunnel on their return trip there will be construction causing limited
access. Instead, buses should use the I 95 corridor. The Outerbridge
Crossing that connects New Jersey and Staten Island; it will close
at 9 PM.
Bus captains must:
- Post the name of their institution
prominently in the bus window.
- Be sure bus companies provide their
drivers with directions to the stadium, or see attached routes.
- collect $2.20 per person prior to
disembarking to cover the cost of a round-trip metro ride from the
stadium to the rally site.
- distribute to their group metrocards
provided by rally marshals.
- Have the $20 fee for parking at RFK
Stadium ready upon arrival.
- Establish emergency rendezvous
points and times for bus riders
on buses. Distribute contact cell phone numbers to riders for
emergency
contact.
- Contact their bus companies
regarding the policy/security of
personal belongings left on the bus.
Let the bus drivers know that
they should listen to the various
radio stations along the route that will tell them of any traffic
problems:
1610 for the NJ Turnpike
1380 for Delaware and Northern Maryland
1500 for DC
Metro Cards
Trains
Given the limited time frame, Amtrak is unable to arrange a special train. However, extra cars will be put on the New York-Washington route Monday morning. Schedule information is available at
Amtrak.com. Reservations should be made and tickets obtained directly from Amtrak.
Weather
The weather
for Monday in Washington calls a slight chance of showers. Highs in the
upper 70s to low 80s.

Parking
For those driving to Washington,
there are parking lots at Union Station, and on 2nd St., NE, between F and H
streets, two blocks past Union Station. Note: the lots are in the northeast
area of DC, not in northwest. There is no parking on Capitol Hill.
Directions to Rally from Local Airports
The Metro provides convenient and inexpensive transportation from the
Washington airports. Those unfamiliar with the Washington Metro system
should be aware that you must hold on to your Metro card - it is used in
turnstiles for both entry and exit from the system.
From Reagan National Airport: Take Metro
(BLUE LINE) in the direction of Addison Road to Federal Center SW.
This Metro ride will cost $1.20 and will take approximately 15 minutes.
When you exit the station you will be at the corner of 3rd and D streets.
Marshals will direct you along
3rd Street to the rally site at the Capitol.
From Baltimore-Washington International Airport: Take shuttle bus outside
baggage claim to Amtrak/MARC rail station. Take MARC train
SOUTHBOUND to Washington DC, Union Station. The train-ride costs $5
one-way and $8.75 roundtrip. Tickets may be purchased at the airport
rail station. Trains depart at 9:00am, 9:56am, 10:57am, and 11:56am.
The trip takes approximately 39 minutes. Marshals will direct you
from outside Union Station to the rally site. (MARC trains returning
to BWI depart Union Station at 3:34pm, 4:15pm, 4:20pm, 4:52pm, and
5:20pm).
From Dulles International Airport: Take a
taxi to Constitution and 1st Street, SW. The rally will be on the
grassy area on the West Front of the Capitol. OR, you may take the
Washington Flyer Coach Service from Dulles Airport to the West Falls
Church Metro station. Tickets for the
Flyer Coach can be purchased at Dulles at the Ground Transportation
Centers located on the Lower Level in the Main Terminal or at the podium
located inside the vestibule of Door 4 on the Arrivals Level. Tickets cost
$8 one-way and $14 roundtrip (group discounts may be obtained by
calling 1-888-WASHFLY). You can board the bus at Dulles from the
Main Terminal at Door 4 located on the Arrivals Level. Buses depart
every half-hour. From the West Falls Church Metro station, take the
Orange Line in the direction of New Carrollton, to Federal Center SW. This
Metro ride will cost $2.40 each way and will take approximately 30
minutes. When you exit the station you will be at the corner of 3rd
and D streets. Marshals will direct you along 3rd Street to the
rally site at the Capitol.

Signs
Participants are urged to bring signs and banners. Contrary to
earlier information, signs and banners may NOT be mounted on wood,
but must be hand-held. A list of suggested
messages is available. Please do not make signs that have message
that attack or are offensive.

Food and Drinks
Remember to bring water. Soft drinks will be available for
purchase from street vendors
Groups must make their own food
arrangements. For the trip to the rally, participants must bring their own
food.

for those who wish to order box meals locally.
For those traveling home by bus, food
arrangements for the return trip can be made for kosher box or hot served
meals through O'Fishel, under the kashrut supervision of Star-K Vaad
Hakashrut of Baltimore at 1-800-443-4743.

adequate purchase of supplies (orders can be modified until Sunday)

desert, fruit, drink)
For those returning home to the north of
Washington by bus, a limited number of hot meals will be served at a
community center in Baltimore. Cost is $16 per meal.

Security
Security will be provided by the Washington, DC police department, the Capitol police and Park police. Please leave back packs at home. Participants are urged NOT to bring bags, or other packages into the rally site.
Volunteers
Organizations, synagogues and campuses in the greater Washington area are urged to mobilize volunteers to serve as marshals. Volunteers should email
shorn@jewishfedwash.org to sign up. They will receive information regarding the Monday morning orientation and other instructions.
