In the wake of the tragedies of the past year, the Orthodox Union and the Rabbinical Council of America are calling on Jews everywhere to gather in their synagogues on this night-traditionally an occasion for Torah learning-for a program of study, prayer and introspection. Source material, specially prepared by these three leading rabbis, has been distributed to all OU shuls: Rabbi Yitzchok Adlerstein: “The Greatness of the Last Hoshana” (from the Netivot Shalom) Rabbi Hershel Billet: “Halacha and Reality: Resolving ‘Conflicts’ ” Rabbi Dr. Tzvi Hersh Weinreb: “The Essence of Hoshana Rabbah-the Ushpizin of David HaMelech” In light of these gatherings, may the blessings of the New Year be bestowed on us, on Israel, on America and all people of good will.
