Rabbi Menachem Genack Rabbi Menachem Genack has served as the Rabbinic Administrator of the OU's Kashruth Division since 1980, overseeing the certification program of some 4,500 food production facilities in 68 countries around the world. He also serves as Rabbi of Congregation Shomrei Emunah in Englewood, New Jersey, and gives a Yoreh Deah shiur for ordination students at Yeshiva University. Rabbi Genack is a close disciple of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik, zt'l, from whom he received semicha yoreh yoreh yadin yadin. In his semicha, the Rav, zt'l wrote: "He dives to the depths of the halacha and emerges with pearls and jewels. Not every day does one encounter a scholar of his caliber". Rabbi Genack aided the Rav in editing the Rav's Shiurim l'Zecher Aba Mori.Himself the author of three halachic works: Birkat Yitzchak, Gan Shoshanim and Chazon Nachum, Rabbi Genack is the co-editor of the Torah journal Mesorah. He also edited Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik, Man of Halacha, Man of Faith, has published over 180 articles on Jewish thought and law, and serves as a member of Tradition's editorial board. Rabbi Genack is a member of the Board of Trustees and Professor Talmud at Touro College, from which he received an Honorary Doctorate in 1998. He was founding Chairman of NORPAC - a pro-Israel political action committee which has grown to be the biggest pro-Israel PAC in the country. He also serves on the executive committee of AIPAC. A friend of President Clinton, he has traveled with him to Israel several times. The two have maintained an fascinating and ongoing correspondence about the Bible. Together with Senator Robert Torricelli, Rabbi Genack co-edited Senator Torricelli's Quotations for Public Speakers, A Historical, Literary and Political Anthology. Rabbi Genack, who recently delivered the invocation at the inauguration of Governor James McGreevey of New Jersey, has been appointed by the Governor to chair the Spirit of Trenton Council, whose mandate is to engage the academic and intellectual resources in the state. Rabbi Genack and his wife, Sarah, are proud parents and grandparents. Edward S. Goldstein In 1961, Ed joined his father, Larry, in the management of Parkside Memorial Chapels, now one of the few chapels to remain independent and Jewish family-owned and operated. A member of the Jewish Funeral Directors of America, Ed has served on its Mortuary College Scholarship Committee, and is presently Chairman of the Donations and Contributions Committee. In the last two years, Ed has worked closely with the Orthodox Union to originate and promote the OU Levaya Funeral Program, a major community initiative which has enabled Orthodox Union members, and all Jews, to arrange for dignified, halachic funerals with just one phone call. Operated in cooperation with Rabbinical Va'adot in the Greater New York area, this program has dramatically lowered the cost of halachic funerals. In addition, Ed and Parkside Chapels are the proud sponsors of the OU's "Positive Jewish Parenting Conference" series, which brings the expertise of mental health professionals and social workers to Jewish parents nationwide. Ed has been a member of Congregation Kneses Tifereth Israel in Port Chester, New York, and the Workmen's Circle 'Arbeiter Ring' for over forty years. He is a member of the Knights of Pythias and was recently honored at their "Camp Weekend" for his philanthropic efforts to provide a summer camp experience for under-privileged children. Ed and his beloved wife, Sheryle, are extremely proud of their children, Shelley and Joseph Hammell, Karen and Todd Goldstein, Jamie and Jonathan Fischer, and their identical twin sons, David and Jordan. David recently became the third generation of the Goldstein family to join Parkside Memorial Chapels. Ed and Sheryle are blessed with grandchildren, Melody and the recent arrival of triplets, Jared, Hannah and Lily. Genie and Steve Savitsky Steve has been active in many organizations, both at the local and national level. He has been president of Congregation Toras Chaim, chairman of the board of Mesivta Ohr Torah, founder and president of the Kew Gardens Hills Eruv, member of the chevra kadisha of the Young Israel of Queens Valley and Woodmere, and is currently president of the Vaad Ha-Kashrus of the Five Towns and Far Rockaway. At the OU, Steve is currently senior vice president and is intimately involved in its operations as chairman of the Community and Synagogue Services Commission, which benefits greatly from his wide communal experience and expertise. As chairman of the Human Resources Commit-tee, he has worked to revamp the conditions of employment for OU staff members, and leads the effort to introduce state-of-the-art practices to the Union's workplace. He has served twice as national dinner chairman, and chairman of the OU Solidarity Mission to Israel, and was the past chairman of the nominating committee. Steve is a graduate of Yeshiva University and has an MBA from Baruch School of Business. He is CEO of Tender Loving Care Home Health Services and chairman of the board of ATC Medical Staffing. Genie has been president of the Women's League of Congregation Toras Chaim, member of the chevra kadisha of Young Israel of Queens Valley and Woodmere, and a board member of Mesivta Ohr Torah. She is an active participant in the women's parshat hashavua program in Congregation Toras Chaim. Genie is a graduate of Stern College and was a teacher in the New York City school system. Their four children, of whom three are married-Julie and Shabsi Schreier, Avi and Cheryl Savitsky and Penina and Zvi Wiener-all live in the Five Towns, for which Genie and Steve are extremely grateful. Their daughter, Estie, is currently finishing her junior year at Stern College. Susan and Neil Thalheim Susan, the daughter of Holocaust survivors, and Neil, both born and raised in Great Neck, are ba'ale teshuva who have been extensively involved in programs and projects in the community in which they reside. Among their many outstanding accomplishments is the founding of the first NCSY Towne Center, a youth lounge in Great Neck, Long Island, established in memory of Susan's brother, Dr. Yaakov Ebin, a"h, where public school teens gather to socialize and learn about their heritage. During the past seven years, the Thalheims have been engaged in outreach and kiruv work both in their community and in their home, organizing shiurim and graciously opening their home to guests on a regular basis. Neil, who created his own hedge fund, the Thalheim Fund, has worked in the financial industry for twenty years. Susan is a medical doctor. The Thalheims are the proud parents of, k"h, six children. |
