Hi there! I hope that you are all well.
Stephen Steiner, the OU head of Public Relations, is a master at putting together a strong Press Release. There is much to gleaned from his advice on how a synagogue can write an effective PR piece. Let us start by saying that synagogue’s can only benefit by writing a Press Release before their big events. Even if nobody comes to your events from the content, you still have embedded the synagogue’s concepts and vision in people’s minds. I’m talking beyond buzz. I’m talking “hey – Anshei Shmanshei, I’ve heard of it before, lets go there this Shabbos.” G-d willing in the near future we will do a sit down interview with Stephen, but for now let me share with you one piece of advice from him: diversify where you are sending your message. If the event is a community fundraiser, that may have its own set of newspapers, as oppose to a senior citizen event. You need to know why you’re sending this particular release to this newspaper. Does the match make sense? Make your message meet your medium.
