Hi there! I hope that you are all well.
We spend so much time speaking about synagogue growth and membership development that we sometimes forget about the X factor. I met with a shul recently that loves their Rabbi, they’re fiscally strong, and everybody seems to get along. Externally, there are plenty of observant Jews in the surrounding area. Yet, for some reason their congregation size is dwindling. What could it be? This is what we like to call “The X Factor.” When all the basics seem to be in order and you hit a wall – there is one other indefinable piece that is missing. G-d could be telling us that it’s simply not our time yet or G-d could be telling us we’re missing something bigger. The approach WINGS has taken with synagogue’s is that any time could be right if we are making sure that all pieces are aligned towards one goal. It’s about having all the horses run in the same direction. Define the “X” and pull it together.
